What exactly is GenNext?

GenNext is United Way of London & Middlesex’s initiative to engage the 20-30 year-old demographic to become actively involved in shaping our community.

Our demographic has great potential to enhance London and Middlesex, making it a more prosperous community… and GenNext is an active way for us to join together and make a difference.

Our mission is to mobilize our generation to make a positive impact on our own community through awareness, involvement and giving.

Our vision is to lead the way for our generation to make a difference in our community.

The goal is to inform young people in our community (GenNexters) about our community, link them to social issues that interest them and connect them with charitable organizations and activities that match their interests and ignite their passions.

Okay...but why should I get involved?

Having people like you – people who care – is the key to making our community a better place for everyone.

It takes your input, your effort, your volunteerism and your voice to say what’s important to you, what you think needs to be improved in London and Middlesex, and what you think can be done to help.

We all know that there are great challenges that some of our neighbours face every day. The one thing that can help is our generation’s capacity for generosity… not just with money; but a willingness to help too.

Why did United Way launch GenNext?

United Way’s long-standing history and tradition dates back over a century in our community. United Way’s mission is to mobilize the power of our community to create lasting change. This happens by working with donors, volunteers, service providers and others to improve the quality of life in our community. United Way provides leadership, resources and promotes volunteerism to support projects and programs directed primarily to the poor and those at risk.

GenNext is a direct result of this drive to improve our community… by bringing out the potential of our generation. In the fall of 2009, United Way of London & Middlesex launched GenNext to engage people in their 20s and 30s to be more actively involved in shaping our community. GenNext aim to build relevant, innovative and compassionate connections that ensure the next generation of leaders are engaged — and remain engaged — in their communities through United Way.

Who’s behind GenNext?

GenNext is led by our generation.

A dynamic GenNext Advisory Committee of volunteers has been struck to lead this exciting work, and operates at arms-length reporting to the United Way of London & Middlesex Board of Directors.
