1. Where do you work? What do you do?
W.C.S. Financial Services Inc. I am the Vice President of WCS, a Managing General Agency - in other words the middleman between the Life Insurance Companies like Canada Life, Manulife and the Independent Financial Advisor. We have been in business in London for 25 years and are Canadian owned and operated.
2. How long have you lived in London?
I live in Coldstream, South Western Ontario’s best kept secret. I have lived here most of my 37 years. I think I am the only person in Coldstream that has lived in 4 different houses within the town’s borders.
3. What is your involvement with fundraising and/or volunteering?
Volunteering can be difficult due to time constraints. My number one priority is to my 2 small children and then to my job, but at the end of the day I think we all have time and dollars to give. I believe that it is our duty as a community to give back. WCS sponsors many events in the city. We have raised over $250,000 for Make-a-Wish, granted 26 wishes, and have given to the following organizations in 2009: The Children’s Health Foundation, Canadian Olympians - Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue, and Breast Cancer Research just to name a few. I have been assembling and coordinating Galas for years to raise awareness, raise funds and bring community support together for a common cause. It is a great way to have fun and raise funds!
4. Why are volunteerism and philanthropy important to our generation?
Volunteerism and Philanthropy are important because of the energy it brings to you, the spirit, and the connection. In a world that is moving so fast, with everyone texting, surfing, downloading apps, it is nice to know that the simple gift of your time, your care, and your support is still what brings a smile to someone else. If you could bottle up the feelings you get from giving and sell it, you would be a very rich person. It’s priceless.
5. You have $20 to your name. How do you spend it?
A tube of Black Zoom MAC Mascara.
6. What would you like to see from GenNext in the next 2 years?
I am just learning about GenNext. Great idea!
7. Do you feel our community does enough to involve our generation? Would you have suggestions to change this?
Lots of places need help. I think that having a website linking those looking for assistance and volunteers wanting to help would be very beneficial for all. It’s really up to the individual to get involved.
8. What is the best movie you’ve seen recently?
The Princess and the Frog. I love the city of New Orleans and Disney really does make the best princess movies.
9. What country or city do you most want to visit? Why?
Vancouver, to cheer on the Olympians and watch them win GOLD!
10. If you were living on the streets, would you rather have food or shelter for the night?
Shelter.
