Across Languages Translation & Interpretation Service is an internationally-recognized charitable non-profit agency. Providing services within London and the surrounding area, they exist to eliminate language barriers to communication between people of diverse languages and cultures. There core services are interpretation, translation, interpreter language skills test development and assessment, interpreter professional development and training, and intercultural communications training. Serving on Across Languages’ Board of Directors is an excellent opportunity for you to enhance your strategic leadership skills while playing a valuable role in establishing our future success. Your 3-year commitment as a voluntary Board member will normally consist of regular attendance at monthly Board meetings (excl July and August), the Annual General Meeting and 2-half-day planning retreats per year. Be a star for a cause…”

Facilitator Films is currently working with the Centre for Research and Education on Violence Against Woman and Children on a local London not-for-profit video project that requires many multicultural actors ranging in age from 25 to 65. This includes Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual,and Transgendered (LGBT) actors.

It’s on a volunteer basis and would require each actor to be on location for approximately 2 hrs. on either June 12th or 13th (a weekend). Selected actors will receive a dvd of their work for their portfolio, if required. Auditions will be next month (date/location TBA) and will require a reading from the script.

In The Know- a tutor match project
   
Investing in Children will match trained volunteers with elementary schools in London. The volunteers will assist the school with homework clubs/1:1 tutoring/ reading programs or in brain games clubs. The time commitment will be determined by the volunteer and the school.

Investing in Children will train all In The Know program volunteers. Training is mandatory before being placed in a school.

Newcomer to Canada Support Volunteer

Assist, exchange experiences and facilitate knowledge of Canadian life by sharing time 2-3 hours bi-weekly in a range of volunteer roles geared to offer you an opportunity for mutual exchange with newcomers to Canada from around the world. You can volunteer your time in task-oriented roles such as tutoring to develop remedial literacy and numeracy skills, help organize group events and day trips of interest, lead interactive exercises in basic computer, language, employment search or other needs as identified by newcomers.

Share your own life stories and experiences in group activities such as women's and men's mentoring groups while sharing an arts project, reading or film series. Recreational opportunities for children, youth and families include a Family Summer Day Camp, pick-up sports, a soccer team and other organized events in partnership with community organizations. Language and conversational opportunities are also formally offered on a weekly schedule at different community sites. Become a conversational mentor! Lead a small group! Commit to visit and support recently arrived refugees from diverse origins, with diverse experiences and different issues which require your help. Befriend a newcomer family and introduce them to Canadian values, practices and ways of getting things done. Share what you know.

Recreation Support
 
The Boys' & Girls' Club of London is looking for enthusiastic volunteers who enjoy working with children to support our rec programs. The position involves providing a safe and fun atmosphere for our kids (supervision) as well as participating in recreation programs to provide our members with a fun experience. This is a flexible position that requires a minimum commitment of 2 hours per month.
