This past week I hit the wall landing myself practically bedridden and incapacitated for two days with a nasty cold. Since then, three of my colleagues have all started to complain of sore throats and that ‘tickle’ at the back of their throats.
That’s right folks the cold and flu season has arrived.
For those of you who lend time and energy to volunteering, this means that you have to be extra diligent in making sure you take care of yourselves. For many of you, volunteering fuels your passions to be part of the communities in which you live and allows you to give back in meaningful ways. At the same time, your time and commitment as a volunteer are also important to those who count on you for your support and your energy.
When you are not well – your time, commitment and energy are missed by those who count on you most. That is why I suggest that we all need to take special care of ourselves so we can continue to be good volunteers, employees and people who give time. We can't work for change when we are worn-down, feeling crappy and when we are sick. Eat well and be sure to get plenty of rest during this cold and flu season. Be sure to take time to take care of you.
Remember: A lot of people are depending on you.
